WHAT CAN I DO? WHAT CAN ANY OF US DO?

8 comments :
This.
This is what we can do.
God bless everyone affected by these catastrophes and God bless all of the firefighters, police officers, EMT's, doctors, nurses and our military who are risking their lives to save others.
May God's grace cover them all...
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

DOING NOTHING IS HARD!

12 comments :
In my last post, I said that I wasn't doing anything on Monday except vegging on the couch and watching Netflix. I tried. I failed.

I think the secret to "not doing anything" is to first, make sure you're wearing an adult diaper.
Second, have a mini-fridge and a microwave right next to the couch.

Third, NEVER LEAVE THE COUCH.
This is the only way you will succeed at doing nothing for an entire day.

My Monday was like a page out of one of my kids' favorite books, 'If You Give A Mouse A Cookie."
"If you give a mouse a cookie, chances are he's going to ask for a glass of milk, and if he asks for a glass of milk, chances are he's going to ask for a napkin..."
You can see how this goes on and on.
Well, it's the same when you vow to do nothing all day.

You get up to get something to drink and you see a dish in the sink. When you bend over to put said dish in the dishwasher you see a dust bunny hiding out under a cabinet next to the base board, so of course, you have to get the broom and do a good sweep.

Then you head to the bathroom for a potty break. You use the last of the toilet paper on the roll. You go to get another roll out of the linen closet and boom, you see something out of place so you start moving things around and once you start moving things around in one closet, well, it's just a snowball effect all the way thru the house.

Thus, I did not just lay on the couch binging on Netflix but it honestly was my greatest intention to do so!

Have you ever tried not doing anything for a whole day??!!
Did you succeed??

It was a challenge for me but if you did it, I wanna' know how.
Spill the beans in the comments below.

Please and thank you.
Obviously, I need to work on this.

LATE NIGHT PODS OF THOUGHT

12 comments :

Lake Michigan - St. Joseph, Michigan
(Not my photo)

Just curious as to why the homes in the paths of hurricanes aren't built more like lighthouses. Lighthouses remain standing for years.
Thoughts?
I read that Domino's Pizza and Ford Motor Company are teaming up to test out a self-driving pizza delivery car.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. I understand that this is classified as progress but nobody is going to want to go out to a car and punch in a code to get a pizza.

Is this some kind of vending machine on wheels?
And what about the people who live in a high rise or those who are wheelchair bound??

The whole idea of ordering a pizza to be delivered is that it's actually de-liv-ered, not just parked in the driveway!

I think it's interesting that this is being tested in Michigan. They should test it during the winter months and see how many Michiganders want to go out in the snow and cold to fumble around with some ridiculous code to get a pizza.
I can tell you how many will go for this.
ZERO.

This is such a waste of money and resources.
Hey, Domino's and Ford!
How about putting this time and money into the city of Flint, Michigan which is currently on year 3 of having no drinkable water, not to mention for use in personal hygiene.

Call me silly but I think the basic needs of human beings come before all of this advanced technology which, FYI, is helping no one.
In ten days my baby will turn 24 and in thirty days he will be married.
How is this possible? I wish I could turn the clock back to when all my kiddos were babies and just leave it there a little while longer..
Anybody else up past their bedtime thinking thoughts of nothingness?
Last day of the long weekend tomorrow and I think I will do absolutely nothing but lay on the couch and watch Netflix.

No running around, no wedding prep, no crochet hook in hand. I'm not going to look at one list, schedule or flight itinerary.

Mindless Netflix watching. That's my Monday.
What's yours look like?

Ten Things of Thankful
1.) I'm thankful that all of my children and grandchildren are healthy, happy, intelligent and genuinely loving and kind spirits. I've been blessed more than I deserve.

2.) I'm thankful for my loyal, loving and furry forever companion, my pup, Luci. She is the keeper of all of my secrets and her furry little body holds all of my tears, happy and sad.

3.) I'm thankful for my friends who are always there for me.

4.) I'm thankful for a place to call home.

5.) I'm thankful for a vehicle that runs and has air conditioning in this blazing heat.

6.) I'm thankful for air conditioning! Otherwise, I'd be a permanent people watcher at the air conditioned malls or a hermit at the air conditioned library if we didn't have our glorious A/C.

7.) I'm thankful for Ibuprofen. I woke up with a killer headache this morning. My head was just pounding.

8.) I'm thankful for a comfy bed to lay my head.

9.) I'm thankful for my Catholic roots.

And last but definitely not least -
10.) I'm thankful for YARN!!
What are YOU thankful for?
Click here to let us all know. Okay, maybe just to let me know. I'm nosey like that.
Happy Weekend!

PATIENCE - ONLY BECAUSE THERE ARE WITNESSES

15 comments :
When I schedule appointments (doctor, dentist, mechanic, salon) I am always reminded that if I don't show up or don't call ahead at least 24 hours to cancel I'll be charged for the appointment anyway and/or "let go" as a client.
AND YET....
When I show up to whichever appointment ON TIME, I am always left waiting at least a half hour to an hour! Does this happen to anyone else? I think I should be able to take a dollar off of my bill for every minute that they're late.
Yesterday we had an appointment to have the carpets cleaned. The closest we could come to an appointment time was "somewhere between 9am and noon." Perfect. I block out that time from my day. Aaannnd.. At 11:30am the carpet guy calls and says he's running late he'll be by "around 3pm."
Really? That's not exactly a 24-hour notice!

Ugh. In any event. He did show up "around 3 pm" but my whole day was shot waiting around for some jughead who clearly had no concept of time. His only saving grace is that he did do a phenomenal job. The carpets look wonderful and the place smells very citrusy.
Other news on the home front:
It's still hot. I'm still busy with a wedding. I'm still anxiously awaiting another granddaughter. And at the end of the day, I'm still crocheting, which I do everywhere now. According to my crochet groups that makes me an official "hooker." Go me!

Here's a pic of my 3 WIP (work in progress) afghans. AND, one on the hook!
The one on the bottom, the stripey one, is so huge it will take me until I'm 100 to finish it! The rest go pretty quick. They'll be done before the holidays.
I hook the granny square one (the one to the right of the skein of yarn) while I watch 'Blue Bloods.'
Random question - Does Thom Selleck age at all? Holy smokes. He's as hot now as he was when he played Magnum P.I!
No plans for the long holiday weekend except staying in with the A/C and off of the roads. I've seen so many accidents and heard so many sirens already and Life Flight is going non-stop.

How about yous guys? Any plans for the long weekend? Whatever you do and wherever you go, be safe. Travel with care. People are so nutso on the roads during the holidays.
Also comes in handy when dealing with repairmen, carpet cleaners, doctors, etc., etc., etc.

FIREWOOD & DEAD BODIES

6 comments :
Here's a tip:
If you see an older couple having trouble with a trailer filled with firewood and the woman has a cast on her arm and you offer them help, keep in mind they may not share your same sense of humor.

For instance when the man asks you if you're sure you can lift some firewood and you answer...

"Well, of course, I can. I'm a Detroit girl. I'm used to lifting heavy things. Usually dead bodies but ya' know firewood, dead bodies, same thing."

ZERO sense of humor with this couple and a great big,
NO THANK YOU on the offer of help.
Seriously.
In the news:
I truly believe that there are more good people in this world than bad. Unfortunately, it usually takes something catastrophic such as Hurricane Harvey to bring that collective goodness to light. I hope that none of you or your loved ones were/are in harm's way. Sadly, it's long from being over... And I will continue to pray for all of those affected by this wicked storm.
Speaking of praying:
I've added a prayer request tab up above my posts. If you need to gather some prayer warriors just click on the tab and follow the directions. It's anonymous unless you choose to put your name in. It's super easy and I hope that you will utilize it because honestly, I LOVE to pray and praying for others is one of my favorite things to do!
On the home front:
I've finally accepted that my dog sets my bedtime. My dog Luci will sit and stare holes into my skull until I get up and say those magic words, "Let's go night night." Omgosh. I have so much to do and my fuzzy little girl is cutting my days short!
I jumped off of Facebook again. I do this from time to time. I still have my fan page up and if you haven't been over to show some love and hit the like button to follow along on this crazy lit'l thing called life. Likes/follows and loves are much appreciated.

You can also follow me on Instagram and Twitter! Just click on the links!
She said as she shamelessly hawks her own fan pages..
It's almost the weekend and I hope the week thus far has been treating you all kindly.

We lost our cooling trend. Boo. Now we're back to the flames of hell. And of course, it's full steam ahead with last minute wedding details.

Everything is under control.
I think if we tell ourselves that enough we'll believe it!

Be well, my friends!
Okay, onto reading some amazing blogs!

SLOWING DOWN FOR A MINUTE

8 comments :
I thought I better make an appearance since it's been nearly a week since I've written. It's been super hectic around here. Lots of running around and scheduling. We have several people flying in for the wedding in October.

Here's some fun news. They're all flying in on the same day.
More fun stuff? They're not coming in at the same time.
We've got some arriving early in the morning and some arriving late in the evening but ya' know what?
I'm just happy they are all able to make it and we will make it work!

Oh, and PS, they're all leaving on the same day too.
Now would be a great time to own about 7 vehicles.

I don't know everyone's arrangements as far as hotels and/or BNB's but I do know we've got 6 young men staying here. Once upon a time, I may have counted myself one lucky girl to have 6 handsome young men hanging around the house but alas, tick, tock, time marches on. Now I'm feeling more like a frat house mom. My only concern at this point is keeping them all fed!
Yesterday was a pretty amazing day for those of us who were able to witness the total solar eclipse. I had no idea the temperature would drop so noticeably but for a minute it really was chilly.

I didn't take any photos but thankfully other people did and they shared! There are so many phenomenal photos on the social media sites.

How cool was it that across the country we all found a moment to pause and look to the sky in wonderment. I think we need more moments like that.
In between the business of the days I've been crocheting. Some of it for gifts, some for charity, others for sale, and more just to keep my sanity. It's relaxing and gives me time to watch my British crime shows.

I'm all caught up on 'Midsomer Murders' and I think I may have a problem. Seriously. There are 19 seasons and 116 episodes available on Netflix from 1997 - 2018 and I've watched them all!

While I wait for season 20 of 'Midsomer Murders' to make it's way to Netflix I've been flipping back n' forth between 'Hinterland' and 'Happy Valley.' I had no idea there were so many different English dialects. I thought all British people sounded like 'Doc Martin,' another fave of my British viewing but 'Hinterland' and 'Happy Land' are difficult to understand in some places and I feel like I should have subtitles on!

Still, I love them all but I am curious how the British detectives are able to catch so many criminals with nothing more than a "billy club." And I'm equally as curious about the criminals who have no available weapons other than the occasional knife. Surely this is not the norm for everyday crime in England. A "billy club" and a knife wouldn't have much of an impact over here.
I haven't been hanging out in blogging land so I haven't been around to visit everyone but I will. I know I have much to catch up on. I think I just need to move a comfy chair to the desk, grab a pot of coffee and make a day of visiting and comments!
Now that all of the hoopla over the eclipse is settling down. What's on tap for everyone's week ahead?? We are finally cooling off over here and that makes for nice early mornings and late evenings.

I hope you can all take a moment throughout your week and just pause and look up.

WOOF!

18 comments :
A funny thing happened over the weekend. Our temps dropped down into the 70's! Now, the temps have leveled out to what should be their normal this time of year which is 80's and low 90's and I am so, so thankful! Our summer was brutal with triple digits.
Another funny thing? While I was out n' about this weekend I passed so many people walking their dogs who looked like their dogs! Or their dogs looked like them. Seriously. It was the whole hair/fur thing.

If the guy was fuzzy his pup was fuzzy. If the woman had short n' sassy hair, her pup had short n' sassy fur. It was crazy and got me to thinking. I wondered how many people actually have pets that look like them and vice versa.
Well, apparently A LOT of people do!

I couldn't take pics of the people I was seeing because that would've been weird but fortunately, there are other people who don't find this weird at all.

One of the guys I passed was walking a full-size poodle just like this one below only the guy's hair was 3 times bigger and curlier on his head and he had a wild beard going on. I wish I could've gotten a pic of him.

I know, I know. This last one isn't a dog but it's an adorable and beautiful photo and they do look alike!
I was happily surprised to draw this angel card this morning.
This card brings about all things positive and truly life changing. Moving forward with luck on your side!
It's so true to what is happening in my life right now and I am so thankful my angels are right there with me every step of the way.
PS - Guess what? Yours are too!
(This angel deck brought to you by Doreen Virtue and her band of angels.)
I hope your Monday was a fantastic beginning for a wonderful week ahead!
